AppManager for Agentless Monitoring includes a managed object and Knowledge Scripts to discover and monitor agentless remote computer resources. The download package includes the PlateSpin Recon installer for installing the monitoring server and monitoring client, this Readme, a management guide, Help for Knowledge Scripts, and the following files that are used during AppManager for Agentless Monitoring installation:
AM70-Agentless-#Build_Version#.msi, the module installer.
AM70-Agentless-#Build_Version#.ini, a configuration file used with the AppManager setup program.
AM70-Agentless-#Build_Version#.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center. This is the file you check into the Control Center Web Depot.
AM70-Agentless-#Build_Version#-RepositoryFiles.exe, a compressed file that contains the QDB and console files. You do not need to run this file during installation.
ckAgentless.exe, the pre-installation check used with the AppManager setup program.
DefaultRule_Agentless.xml, a configuration file used for deploying the module with Control Center.
When you download the module, these files are copied by default to the local folder on the download computer. Consider copying these files to the \windows_installation\setup\Setup Files folder on the same distribution computer on which you saved your main AppManager software and documentation. By doing so, you maintain all AppManager software in one location that is easily accessible when you want to add more repositories, management servers, or agents.
Before installing this module on the agent computer, use the PlateSpin Recon installer that you downloaded from the download package to install the following on the agent computer:
Monitoring server (PlateSpin Recon Server)
Monitoring client (PlateSpin Recon Client)
For information about installing the monitoring server and client, see the Installing PlateSpin Recon section in the PlateSpin Recon Getting Started Guide.
IMPORTANT:This module supports only SQL Express 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2 databases for monitoring server installation.
You must activate the PlateSpin Recon license. For information about the PlateSpin Recon license, please contact your NetIQ Representative or Technical Support.
Run the module installer to install the module components in the following locations:
On the agent computers to install the agent components
On all console computers to install the Help and console extensions
Run the module installer only once on each of these computers. You must also install the Knowledge Scripts. You can install these components into local or remote QDBs.
When installing to the primary QDB, select the option to install Knowledge Scripts, and then specify the SQL Server name of the server hosting the QDB, as well as the case-sensitive QDB name.
Install Knowledge Scripts only once per QDB. The module installer now installs Knowledge Scripts for each module directly into the QDB.
For more information about installing this module, see the AppManager for Agentless Monitoring Management Guide, included in the download package.
NetIQ Corporation strives to ensure our products provide quality solutions for your enterprise software needs. The following issues are currently being researched. If you need further assistance with any issue, please contact Technical Support.
If you configure any Agentless Monitoring Knowledge Script to monitor a large number of remote computers, the monitoring job might fail. (ENG329676)
Workaround: Consider running multiple instances of the job on fewer number of remote computers.
If the PlateSpin Recon Monitoring Service on the agent computer stops when the agent computer reboots, this service might not restart automatically. Consequently, the monitoring data is not collected.(DOC330897)
Workaround: To enable the collection of monitoring data, you must manually restart this service:
From the Start menu, click Run.
Type services.msc in the Open option and click OK.
Right-click the PlateSpin Recon Monitoring Service and click Start.
The network adapters on a Solaris x86 computer cannot be discovered and monitored. (ENG331830)
If you delete remote computers from the AppManager console, the monitoring server still continues to monitor these remote computers. (ENG333074)
Workaround: To stop monitoring these computers, do the following to delete them from the monitoring server also:
Launch the monitoring client.
In the Data Center Explorer, right-click the servers you want to delete.
Click Delete.
The network utilization data for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 computers might not get collected. (ENG333073)
If you rename the Network Interface Card (NIC) on a remote UNIX computer, then the renamed NIC on this computer is not discovered. (ENG332990)
The logical disks on Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 computers are not monitored. (ENG332862)
